5 Questions That Will Instantly Bring Clarity to Your Life (and Why Most People Avoid Them)
Apr 16, 2026
There were a couple of seasons in my professional life where I took the job because I had to. Out of fear. Out of desperation. Out of other options not working out.
On paper, things looked good because I had a job and perceived stability. But internally? I was dying, in a metaphorical sense. I felt stuck.
Part of me was stuck because there wasn't upward mobility with the companies I was working for. The main reason I was stuck though...was because I didn’t have clarity.
And if you’ve ever been there, you know that’s a different kind of frustration.
Because when you don’t have clarity, you second-guess everything:
- Every decision
- Every opportunity
- Every next step
- Even....your value
You start asking: “Will it ever get better?” “Am I doing the right thing?” “Is there something more?”
Looking back, I realize something now that I didn’t fully understand then:
It wasn’t that I needed more information. I needed better questions.
Because clarity doesn’t come from thinking more. It comes from asking better questions.
Now, for the hard part: Most people avoid the very questions that would change their life. Not because they don’t want clarity… but because clarity requires honesty.
And honesty can be uncomfortable.
So let’s go there. Here are 5 questions that can bring some clarity to your life.
1. “How did I get here… really?”
This is a question I’ve asked myself more times than I can count.
Not the surface-level answer. Not the résumé version.
But the real one.
Because when I look back at my journey from Oklahoma to chasing music to corporate to entrepreneurship, I can see that my life wasn’t random.
It was shaped by:
- Decisions I made
- Risks I took
- Moments where things didn’t go how I planned
And to be honest…
Some of the biggest shifts in my life came from things I didn’t want at the time.
Job loss. Uncertainty. Doors closing.
But those moments forced me to ask: “How did I actually get here?”
And when you answer that honestly, patterns start to emerge. Your life begins to make more sense. Clarity starts to form.
Why people avoid this question:
Because it requires ownership.
It’s easy to blame circumstances. It’s harder to admit:
- “I stayed too long.”
- “I ignored the signs.”
- “I made that decision.”
But ownership isn’t punishment. It’s power.
2. “Why am I here?”
This is where things get deeper.
Because “how” explains your path. But “why” reveals your purpose.
And I’ll be honest, this question used to frustrate me.
Because I thought purpose had to be something big, loud, and obvious.
But what I’ve learned is this:
Purpose is often hiding in plain sight.
It shows up in:
- What comes naturally to you
- The impact you have on people
- The things that feel meaningful, even when they’re hard
But you won’t see it if you’re not looking for it.
Why people avoid this question:
Because it comes with responsibility.
Once you recognize your purpose, you can’t unsee it.
And now you’re faced with a choice: Ignore it or act on it
And acting on it might require:
- Change
- Risk
- Letting go of comfort
So many people stay busy instead of getting clear.
3. “What am I avoiding?”
Like a pastor of mine once said, "If you can't say Amen, say ouch!"
There’s something you’ve been putting off.
- A decision
- A conversation
- A leap
And deep down, you already know what it is.
I’ve been there.
Telling myself: “I just need more time.” “I’m not ready yet.” “It’s not the right season.”
But most of the time?
That’s not strategy. That’s fear.
Fear has a way of dressing itself up as logic.
But here’s what I’ve learned through my life by taking action and making tough choices:
Growth doesn’t happen in the comfort zone. It happens when you go to grow.
Why people avoid this question:
Because it exposes fear.
And once you name it, you can’t hide behind it anymore.
Avoidance feels safer in the short term. But it keeps you stuck long term.
4. “What really matters right now?”
We live in a world full of noise.
Notifications. Deadlines. Expectations.
And before you know it, you’re busy but not aligned.
I’ve had seasons where I was doing a lot, but not doing what mattered most.
You can be busy, but not productive. Running, but not going anywhere (treadmill-style).
And that’s a dangerous place to be.
Clarity comes when you ask:
- What matters now?
- What deserves my energy?
- What do I need to let go of?
Why people avoid this question:
Because it forces you to make hard trade-offs.
You can’t do everything.
And answering this question might mean:
- Saying no
- Disappointing people
- Letting go of things that are “good,” but not right
And that’s not easy.
5. “What would I do if I fully believed in myself?”
This one hits different.
Because it removes the excuses.
If you TRULY believed in your ability:
- Would you start the business?
- Go after the opportunity?
- Speak up?
- Create something meaningful?
I’ve seen it in my own life and in so many others:
Your value isn’t defined by your past. It’s rooted in who you are and the impact you can create.
Why people avoid this question:
Because it eliminates the safety net.
If belief isn’t the issue, then what is?
Now you can’t say: “I’m not ready.” “I’m not good enough.”
Now it becomes: “Am I willing to act?”
And that’s where most people hesitate.
Clarity Changes Everything
Here’s what I’ve learned through all of this:
Clarity isn’t something you wait for. Clarity is something you create.
And one of the most powerful ways to create it is through intentional questions.
These are the exact types of questions I had to start asking myself during that season when I felt stuck.
And over time, I realized something:
Most people aren’t lacking potential. They’re lacking the right questions.
That’s why I created Clarity Cards.
Not as a product. But as a tool.
A tool to help you:
- Think deeper
- See clearer
- Move forward with intention
Whether you’re:
- Journaling on your own
- Leading a team

- Or trying to figure out your next step
These questions create breakthroughs because they force honesty.
